It is fair to say that most if not all men's primary concern is if they will have as much discomfort with a vasectomy reversal as they remember from their vasectomy. We think this is pretty common and pretty normal. Some of the medications used for vasectomy tend to make men forget, but vasectomy is almost always far more uncomfortable.

Vasectomy Reversal certainly takes longer to do than a vasectomy, but it is with rare exception that people state that they had any discomfort beyond the sting of the local anesthetic. At least half of the men undergoing a reversal at Carolina Vasectomy Reversal will fall asleep during the procedure.
There are some men who know they do not tolerate much of any manipulation under local and might prefer to be put under a general anesthetic, but this is not ideal for several reasons. In over 30 years, we have seen perhaps a handful of men who stated they were uncomfortable, but this is very rare.
General anesthesia adds an enormous amount of risk that is unnecessary. It also costs more.
Twilight anesthesia is similar. It actually is more dangerous because there is no control of your airway and should you receive slightly too much medication and stop breathing for any reason, it might not end well.
Both Twilight and general type anesthetics are best reserved for hospital environments where there is a team of support personnel to help with resuscitation efforts.
When you are asleep, your scrotum moves a great deal more than when you are breathing normally. This leads most surgeons to use far less magnification and perform a far less precise procedure even if they could with more magnification.
