Scheduling Your Procedure

Call our office; you will be greeted by an experienced staff member who will be able to address most if not all of your questions before scheduling  your procedure. We require a $2000 nonrefundable deposit to hold your surgery date. If you need to move your surgery to an earlier date, you may do so without additional deposit, if space is available. We cannot postpone or cancel your surgery without forfeiture of  your deposit in all but the most unusual of circumstances. We have arranged for very good corporate rates with some of our local hotels. Please ask our staff for this information before scheduling your own hotel reservation.

We offer telephone consultations with Dr. Daniel himself at no charge for those patients who have questions they would like to have addressed prior to making the trip to South Carolina, but this is NOT a requirement before scheduling a procedure. We also offer staff consultations that will go over far more than you have thought to ask. The information about vasectomy reversal and surgical technique found on Google can be misleading and often confusing, sometimes intentionally it seems.

VASECTOMY REVERSAL COST

Price is certainly a prime consideration for most everyone.  Everyone wants to know the vasectomy reversal cost; even why it is more than some and less than most.  What you get for your money should be equally as important.  Our practice is unique. In the early 90’s, we were performing vasectomy reversal procedures in the hospital and their fees alone were far higher than even IVF procedures. Moving our practice to our on surgical center, we can better control cost as well as quality! We offer services you will not find in other practices who are performing vasectomy reversals, and our training and experience are second to none.

We perform this procedure in our own state of the art facility, which allows us to offer a lower total vasectomy reversal cost compared to most places around the country, especially anyone who is performing this procedure in a hospital or out-patient surgery setting.  This also allows for better quality control as this is not an inexpensive procedure to perform, but purchasing contracts can mean the forced use of cheep suture and other supplies.  Dr. Daniel himself will be performing your surgery, which he limits to one procedure a day. He has no desire to just see how many he can crank out. This would not be a measure of quality. We always reverse both sides and use the best surgical microscope available. We use only the highest quality equipment and only the highest quality sutures available.  We have no add on charges. Dr. Daniel is very meticulous and very exacting, and his technique is far more precise than what most doctors utilize. Some practices don’t even have doctors performing the surgery. Gimmick procedures that sound interesting or even special do not yield results and can actually be detrimental. Unfortunately, this procedure is too expensive in a hospital setting and no one is getting good training anymore because patients do not go to teaching centers to have this surgery done. It just costs too much out of pocket in today’s world. Dr. Daniel will not compromise on anything. Our consultation costs are included. We do our absolute best to keep our vasectomy reversal costs affordable, but we make no compromises. We refuse to cut corners anywhere because doing so can lower your vasectomy reversal success rate. This surgery is too important.

Surgical Consultation

Many men have PTSD from the discomfort of their vasectomy procedures and are scared to death. You need not be; no one has ever said that the reversal procedure was anywhere near as uncomfortable. The surgical consultation with Dr. Daniel will generally take about 45 minutes to an hour. During this time, you will be given the opportunity to ask Dr. Daniel any specific questions you might have. If you can bring your mate with you; they usually have more questions than the men do. If you do not have any specific questions, that’s ok too.

Dr. Daniel will go over the procedure with you in full detail because most of us don’t know what we should really ask before any surgery. Dr. Daniel will also cover the postoperative care and the medications that you will be receiving prior to and following the procedure. We will begin by discussing the different anesthetic options available for this procedure and why we choose the type of anesthesia that we use. We will discuss the placement of the incisions and how they will be closed. (We do not use any drains; they are not necessary). We also will not be trying to fold your vas around on itself in any way; you did not have any real extra even before your vasectomy, and you certainly do not now.

Dr. Daniel will explain how your vasectomy will be put back together. Blood supply is very important. Some techniques can actually compromise this further and might sound good but are detrimental. Many people are told that their vasectomy is not reversible or that it has been too long since their vasectomy for this procedure to work. Neither of these statements are true either. To date, we have never had anyone we could not reconnect, although some are needless to say easier than others. Our longest successful reversal we are aware of occurred 52 years after their vasectomy!

Surgical Procedure

Do not eat or drink anything on the morning of your surgery so that your medication will be absorbed quickly and you will not get an urge to urinate. After the medication has had some time to take effect, you will be taken back to the operating room. Dr. Daniel will  prep the surgical area with two different surgical prep solutions, dry the area, and cover you with a sterile drape sheet. You will  feel a marking pen on each side. After the sites for your incisions have been marked, you will receive injections on each side under this area. The injection of the local anesthetic stings for less than a minute.

The surgery will take about 2.5 hours to complete. Dr. Daniel will close both incisions with a cosmetic or plastic type closure, apply antibiotic ointment, and a sterile dressing.  Dr. Daniel will assist you in getting dressed if necessary, and then bring you to your mate or family member in an examination room in a wheel chair and go over the procedure with both of you. Because patients are often still somewhat sedated from their medication or more focused on other things than what is being said, Dr. Daniel will also write down all the surgical and postoperative care information for you and give you a copy before you leave.

After Your Surgery

You will want someone else to take you home or to your hotel and to stay with you. You will be more comfortable as well if you have someone to bring you meals and anything else you might need. After your surgery, if you have any questions, we ask that you contact our office first during business hours, or Dr. Daniel directly on his cell phone, if the office is closed.

We ask that you bring a couple of ice packs, already cold, or frozen water bottles with you and use them diligently at least on the day of surgery, but 48 hours is ideal. By the third day, if you wish to continue to use something, moist heat is usually preferable for both discomfort and any swelling.

Follow up

A follow up appointment is generally not necessary. You are certainly welcome to return for a follow-up visit if you feel you want to be seen, but this would be very unusual, especially since most of our patients live some distance away.

At Carolina Vasectomy Reversal, this is all we do. We perform vasectomy reversal surgery four days a week, every week. We could do more than one procedure a day, but we choose to focus on one patient at a time and not compromise. We have been performing successful vasectomy reversal surgery for over 30+ years and are confident you will be glad you chose to come here.
